Based on the personal taste and quirky style of owner Gwen Mutschler, who was born in 1974, this luxury lifestyle boutique stocks the most gorgeous goodies guaranteed to transform any Plane Jane into a Fairytale Princess, or just simply adding some sparkle to the individual that is uniquely “you”.
Originally located in her home in Hyde Park, Gwen opened her flagship store ideally located in Parkhurst’s trendy 4th Ave in mid 2005. Here you are able to browse this treasure trove of amazing finds, sourced both locally and from further a field. Most items are designed and manufactured in-house under the watchful eye of Gwen or commissioned from carefully selected suppliers. Feast your eyes on items ranging from sleepwear to evening dresses, jewellery to gifts, children’s clothing and décor accessories and even handpicked art & furniture. Gwen’s Style also offers exclusive gift registries for weddings, baby showers, twenty first birthdays and other special events.
Born and raised in Johannesburg, Gwen’s eclectic taste mirrors her multi-faceted personality. Not content on being a stay-at-home mom to two gorgeous boys, and finding the inflexibility of a corporate job too stifling, Gwen started searching for a business opportunity that would allow her the freedom to express her creativity, the flexibility to be a good mother and yet would be a stimulating business challenge. Owning her own business had been a dream that Gwen had secretly harboured for many years, and shortly after the birth of her second son, the timing finally seemed to be right.
When talking about her inspirations, Gwen confesses that she is an undying romantic, with a love for old Hollywood movies and the glamour of days gone by. Many of the items in stock at Gwen’s Style are reminiscent of the early 20th century from the 20’s right through to the 50’s.
Some of the more well-known brands currently available in store are: Coast & Koi ladies shoes, Two’s designer ladies wear, Little Earthlings children’s clothing, Miss Bali bath product range, Xquisite hand-made candles, Ethereal homewear and linen, Nocturnal Affairs sleepwear for children and adults, Spirit Sleepwear for ladies, Beatrix Potter baby range by Teddy’s and Toadstools, Pewter homewear by Summit Ridge Trading amongst many other delicious finds that may vary from time to time. Where possible, Gwen has negotiated exclusive designs by the above mentioned companies, i.e. Coast & Koi will produce a range of shoes exclusively for Gwen based on designs that she conceptualized with their design team. To this end, we will soon be launching an exciting range of Coast & Koi shoes for little girls that will only be available through Gwen’s Style.
The concept and inspiration for the brand “Gwen’s Style” was to create a haven for women, whereby they were able to detach from the stresses of everyday life and tune-in to their femininity. After all, all girls want to be princesses.
